<description>Thank you for covering this important free community event. We will have a related free event in 2008 on the actual day of the founding. Each year, look for similar events each July and Nov. 29. Details-
A ceremony and food drive on Saturday November 29th 2008 (1-5 pm) will commemorate the founding of San José on November 29th 1777. The public is invited to attend San Jose’s birthday at the Peralta Adobe (175 West Saint John St.). Nearly 231 years ago, a gathering 15 men and 51 women and children started a settlement that they called El Pueblo San José de Guadalupe. The free event on the 29th will include the telling of their story, a flag raising, music and the lighting of a perpetual candle. There will be guided tours of the Peralta Adobe and Fallon House. The afternoon is organized by the non-profit Los Californianos, a group of descendants of the founders, in conjunction with History San Jose.
*Please bring non-perishable food items to benefit the Holiday Food Drive of the Second Harvest Food Bank and those in the Bay Area that are in need during this time of economic uncertainty.*
